The constant temperature of a Fuego wood fired pizza oven makes for wonderfully rich and unctuous stews and casseroles and this 25cm diameter stew pot with lid is the perfect way to create them.
Hand-made by artisan craftsmen in the Castile region of Spain, this traditional cazuela stew pot is made using the exact same fire clay as the Fuego wood burning oven and has the same incredible refractory properties. By combining slow-drying red clay for strength and white clay containing quartz, feldspar, and mica for heat retention, the result is a beautifully rustic, durable and highly practical earthenware that keeps its heat for longer. This stew pot and lid are also suitable for use in microwave, stovetop and traditional ovens.
Our terracotta cooking dishes are hand-made by experienced potters made with two types of clay; slow drying red clay which gives the pot its strength and white clay, containing quartz, feldspar and mica which give the pots their incredible refractory properties. The pots are dried, glazed and fired for 10 hours. The glaze on the cazuela dish is perfectly safe for all applications, it contains no lead.
On first use, terracotta cooking dishes need to be soaked for 30 minutes in cold water to prevent the pot from cracking when used. When cooking with terracotta, the key is to increase and decrease heat gradually to avoid cracking and shattering the dishes.
